A wagering requirement is the total amount you must stake before bonus funds and bonus winnings can be withdrawn. At Gambana it is 10× the bonus amount. That is the maximum UK operators are allowed to set.
This page shows what that means in pounds, how game choice changes it, and what clearing it is likely to cost on average.
What wagering means
If you receive a £100 bonus with 10× wagering, you must place £1,000 in total bets on eligible games before the bonus converts to real money. That does not mean you need to lose £1,000. Winnings are added back to your balance and can be staked again. The requirement counts the total of your bets, not your losses.
The UK 10× cap
Since 19 January 2026, the UK Gambling Commission has capped wagering on casino bonuses at 10×. Before that, much higher multiples were common. Gambana’s welcome offer sits at the cap:
- Bonus: 10× the bonus amount
- Free-spin winnings: 10×
Every operator in our UK casino comparison now works within this limit. The differences are now in what the multiple applies to, the game weighting and the time limit.
Worked examples with the Gambana bonus
The welcome offer is a 200% match up to £5,000, so each £1 you deposit adds £2 of bonus.
| Deposit | Bonus (200%) | Total balance | Wagering (10× bonus) |
|---|---|---|---|
| £10 | £20 | £30 | £200 |
| £50 | £100 | £150 | £1,000 |
| £100 | £200 | £300 | £2,000 |
| £500 | £1,000 | £1,500 | £10,000 |
| £2,500 | £5,000 | £7,500 | £50,000 |
Example: £100 deposit. You get a £200 bonus. 10 × £200 = £2,000 to wager. At £1 per spin, that is 2,000 spins.
Example: full £2,500 deposit. You get the full £5,000 bonus. 10 × £5,000 = £50,000 to wager. At the £5 max bet, that is 10,000 spins, which is a lot of play to fit into 21 days.
Because wagering applies to the bonus amount only, your deposit is not multiplied. That makes this structure lighter than offers that apply wagering to deposit plus bonus.
Free-spin winnings
The 250 free spins are worth £0.10 each, or £25 of spins in total. Any winnings go to your bonus balance with 10× wagering.
- £15 won from a day’s spins means £150 of wagering
- £40 won across all ten days means £400 of wagering
Each batch of 25 spins expires 24 hours after it is credited, so use them daily.
Game weighting and required stake
Games contribute different amounts towards wagering:
| Game type | Weighting | Stake needed to clear £2,000 of wagering |
|---|---|---|
| Slots | 100% | £2,000 |
| RNG table games | 10% | £20,000 |
| Live casino | 10% | £20,000 |
At 10% weighting you need to stake ten times as much to make the same progress. A £100 deposit bonus that takes £2,000 of slot play would take £20,000 on live blackjack.
RTP and the expected cost of clearing wagering
Every game has a house edge, which is 100% minus its RTP. Over many bets, the average amount lost is roughly:
expected loss ≈ total stake × house edge
Gambana’s slots mostly have RTPs of 95–96.5%, which is a house edge of 3.5–5%.
£100 deposit, £200 bonus, played on slots
- Wagering: £2,000
- On a 96% RTP slot: £2,000 × 4% = about £80 expected loss
- On a 95% RTP slot: £2,000 × 5% = about £100 expected loss
On average, about £200–£220 of the £300 balance would be left once wagering is complete, subject to the conversion cap in the offer terms. That is only an average. Slot results vary widely, and many sessions will end at zero before wagering is finished.
Full £5,000 bonus on slots
- Wagering: £50,000
- At a 4% house edge: £50,000 × 4% = about £2,000 expected loss
Why tables usually cost more
On live roulette (single-zero RTP about 97.3%, edge 2.7%), clearing £2,000 of wagering takes £20,000 of stakes because of the 10% weighting:
- £20,000 × 2.7% = about £540 expected loss, which is more than the £200 bonus
Even blackjack at a 0.5% edge costs about £100 over £20,000 of stakes, and that assumes perfect strategy. For most players, slots are the cheapest way to clear this bonus.
Time limit and max bet
- 21 days from opt-in to complete wagering. After that, the remaining bonus and bonus winnings are removed.
- £5 max bet per spin or hand while the bonus is active. Players aged 18–24 are limited by law to £2 per spin on slots.
At £1 spins, £2,000 of wagering is about 95 spins a day over 21 days. Work out the daily pace before you deposit a large amount.
Tips for clearing wagering
- Choose slots with an RTP of 96% or higher. Check the RTP in the game’s info panel.
- Keep stakes well below £5 so a single bet cannot breach the max bet rule.
- Check your progress in the bonus section of your account.
- Avoid table and live games until the bonus is cleared, or cancel the bonus first.
- Read the conversion cap in the offer terms so you know the most that can be converted.
- Set a deposit limit before you start. Our responsible gambling page shows how.

When to decline a bonus
Playing without a bonus is often the better choice if:
- You mainly play live casino or table games, where the 10% weighting makes clearing slow and expensive
- You want to withdraw soon, because withdrawing early forfeits the bonus
- You prefer stakes above £5
- You cannot realistically wager the amount within 21 days
- The bonus would push you to deposit more than you planned
Real-money play has no wagering, so you can withdraw whenever you like (after KYC). See our full Gambana review for the rest of the offer.
Gambling is for adults aged 18+ only. Wagering requirements describe how bonuses work, not a way to profit. The house edge means the expected result is a loss. Play for entertainment within a budget, and call the free National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 if you need support.
FAQ
What is the wagering requirement on the Gambana welcome bonus?
10× the bonus amount, which is the UK maximum since 19 January 2026. Free-spin winnings also carry 10× wagering.
How much do I need to wager on a £100 deposit?
A £100 deposit gives a £200 bonus, so you need to wager 10 × £200 = £2,000 on eligible games within 21 days.
Do live casino games count towards wagering?
Yes, but only at 10%. Every £10 staked on live or RNG table games counts as £1 of wagering, so clearing on tables takes ten times as much play as on slots.
Is it worth taking the Gambana bonus?
If you play slots, can stay within the £5 max bet and have time to wager within 21 days, it adds play time. If you prefer live tables, high stakes or quick withdrawals, playing without the bonus is usually simpler.
